BACK2NATURE REGENERATIVE FARM

Impact Circle is delighted to join UNFAO to present World Soil Day 2023 (#WorldSoilDay) in Malaysia and brings to life its campaign "Soil and Water: A Source of Life" by featuring the Back2Nature Regenerative Farm in Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan. The farm was set up in December 2020 with the objectives to conduct field research into regenerative natural farming technologies scientifically and demonstrate the adoption of regenerative farming practices that extend the lifespan and quality of soil through healthy microbial cultivation that results in producing pesticide/chemical-free and nutrient-rich crops. Today, the farm houses more than 200 edible crops and evidently showcases the power of regenerative farming technologies on plant growth, the incidence of plant diseases, and pests, yield performance, relative cost comparisons on inputs as well as taste and nutrition contents of the crops.
The #WorldSoilDay 2022’s showcase at the Back2Nature Regenerative Farm this coming December 5, aims to raise awareness of the importance of maintaining healthy ecosystems and human well-being by addressing the growing challenges in soil management, increasing soil awareness, and encouraging societies to improve soil health. Soil nutrient loss is a major soil degradation process threatening nutrition and is recognized as being among the most important problems at a global level for food security and sustainability all around the globe.
The #WorldSoilDay began as a local Community Movement we started on 5 December 2020 as a lighthouse project supported by leading agricultural faculties of local universities and regional scientific experts, to showcase the power of natural farming without any chemicals, pesticides, fertilizers, and tilling. We soon became recognized as an empowered collection of leaders, engaging with more and more people, adding more and more supporters, and amplifying more and more voices -dedicated to cementing a better future for all. What brings us together is our dedication toward our common goals to build an inclusive, sustainable, and well-nourished society. Our planet’s survival depends on the precious link between soil and water. Over 95 percent of our food originates from these two fundamental resources. Soil water, vital for nutrient absorption by plants, binds our ecosystems together. This symbiotic relationship is the foundation of our agricultural systems.
However, in the face of climate change and human activity, our soils are being degraded, putting excessive pressure on our water resources. Erosion disrupts the natural balance, reducing water infiltration and availability for all forms of life. Sustainable soil management practices, such as minimum tillage, crop rotation, organic matter addition, and cover cropping, improve soil health, reduce erosion and pollution, and enhance water infiltration and storage. These practices also preserve soil biodiversity, improve fertility, and contribute to carbon sequestration, playing a crucial role in the fight against climate change.
The World Soil Day 2023 (WSD) and its campaign aim to raise awareness on the importance and relationship between soil and water in achieving sustainable and resilient agrifood systems. WSD is a unique global platform that not only celebrates soils but also empowers and engages citizens around the world to improve soil health.
